BSB exhibit at this year’s Fire Safety Event in Birmingham.

The Fire Safety Event is one of the UK’s leading fire protection trade shows. With over 12,000 fire safety professionals in attendance and more than 10,000 products and solutions on display, the event proved to be a dynamic hub for discussion, innovation, and collaboration in the fire safety industry.

BSB Dampers | BSB at the Fire Safety Event 2025: A Showcase of Innovation and Insight

Showcasing Innovation: SmokeProtect & FireProtect

Our stand welcomed many visitors across the three days, with particularly strong interest in two new products – the SmokeProtect and FireProtect. Both are proudly manufactured in the UK at BSB’s new facility in Aylesford, Kent and designed to meet growing demand for compliant Smoke and passive fire protection solutions.

These showcase products, alongside the FD-R Series rectangular fire damper, sparked conversations around UK Building regulation, fire compartmentation, Smoke control, BS9991,  reliability, and  testing and certification standards. Explore the FD-R Series here.

CPD, Compliance & Training Needs

We received overwhelming interest in our CPD’s , particularly from consultants, building services engineers, and maintenance teams. Some of the key takeaways:

  • Requests for installation methods training for BSB Dampers in our new training facility.
  • Multiple attendees asked for damper installation guides and updated operation and maintenance manuals, which are all freely available on our website.
  • Interest in staying ahead of updates to BS 9999, BS9991 and compliance regulations was a recurring theme.

The event highlighted a clear and growing demand for damper maintenance, and surveying solutions across sectors such as hospitality, care facilities, hotels and property management. Attendees were particularly interested in end-to-end support packages, reflecting a rising awareness of compliance responsibilities and lifecycle management.

We also saw strong product interest across the board, including:

  • SmokePro and positive pressure systems
  • Lobby dampers, Smoke control dampers and fire dampers.
  • Tools to support installation and compliance, such as damper aperture sizes calculators and guidance on non-standard installations like asymmetric walls.

Technical Insight & Sector Leadership

Discussions at the show also delved into current and upcoming major infrastructure projects, including those requiring enhanced ductwork and damper specifications. Interest in our newly previewed EIS-rated FSD-IR dampers, and Part 8 smoke dampers indicates a strong focus on UK manufactured high-performance solutions that meet stringent fire safety standards.

We also heard positive feedback on the importance of efficient fire testing processes and how fast certification turnaround can accelerate project timelines — a reminder of the value in working with reliable partners.

It was encouraging to hear how widely recognised BSB is for UK manufacturing excellence and global distribution. Even among those not yet purchasing from us, BSB’s reputation for quality and innovation was noted. This presents exciting opportunities to convert interest into long-term relationships.

Raising Standards: Fire Industry Leadership

The event also delivered a wealth of expert insight:

  • Live fire test demos were streamed daily from UKTC’s cutting-edge facility, featuring commentary from passive fire product experts.
  • A standout presentation by Andrew Taylor, ASFP Head of Technical, explored how the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) intersects with UK and Irish building regulations — highlighting challenges in harmonising standards for products like dampers.
  • Paul McSoley CEng MCIBSE AIFireE MSoPHE delivered a powerful talk on systematic approaches to passive fire design at the Passive Fire Conference. He focused on the importance of early detailing and design coordination for tested compartment penetration requirements during pre-construction. Paul emphasised the critical role this plays in ensuring buildings are safe and compliant, highlighting the need for procurement decisions to prioritise safety and specification integrity over cost-cutting.
